A Sign for St. Margaret's Church

We built this sign for Doug Taylor, a member of St. Margaret's Church (whose frame we built) in Bay St. Lawrence, Cape Breton, who donated it to the church. The sign was raised on November 13, 2005.

Attaching the sign to its base
The extremely rugged base support indicates the healthy respect locals have for "Les Suete", the legendary southeast winds of the Cape Breton Highlands.

The font is "Cry Uncial", an old form dating back to the 10th and some sources say perhaps 6th century. It's an early form of shorthand with no capitals. Picture some cold tired monk or scribe hunched over, quilling away by candle light.

Cry Uncial! and let loose the scribing of old!

The sign will be a suitable match for the church itself whose frame we built a couple of years earlier.
