St. Margaret's Church, Bay St. Lawrence, Cape Breton
St. Margaret's Church, in Bay St. Lawrence, on the northernmost tip of Cape Breton, was destroyed by fire. The congregation decided to build a new church using the time-honoured techniques of timber framing. See also the sign we made for the church. First some new (June 2003) pictures from inside the completed church:

Above left: The old church, Bay St. Lawrence, and Cape North
in the distance. Right: the building site.

Above left: the bents lie on the deck, ready to be raised
by crane. Cheticamp Boatbuilders (their name is on the crane) did
an excellent job as general contractor for the church. We would recommend
them highly for other projects.

Above: Special reinforced structures were built into the
frame to support the steeple.

Above: Head of the building committee, Thomas MacDonald,
discusses a weighty matter with the parish priest, Fr. Duncan MacIsaac.

Taylor's mortar-free stone wall is a local landmark. Doug commissioned
us to make a sign for the church,
which he generously donated.
