James McMahon, sculptor

sculpture in wood by sculptor James McMahonLeft: James McMahon with his Galapagos tortoise. The tortoise is solid elm, and weighs 800 lbs.

James has a web site with many more images of his work at www.jamesmcmahon.ca. Meanwhile, here are some samples of his masterful talent for carving "anything in wood."

Below: Monumental sculptures by James McMahon of Howard Dill and a giant pumpkin were unveiled in 2004, during the annual giant pumpkin regatta in Windsor, NS. Howard Dill was a pioneer in the development of giant pumpkins and has brought a lot of national and international attention to the Windsor area, and the town chose to honour him in this way, to his great delight. Working from a number of photos of Mr. Dill, James achieved a timeless likeness of the man.

The small photo with kids (ages 10 and 4) gives an idea of the scale of the sculptures.
